I never understood circumcision. I don’t understand why anyone would ever willingly hurt their child like that.“To be like Daddy”- If your kid sees his junk he’ll first notice hair, not foreskin.
“It’s cleaner”- Vaginas have lots more folds and we don’t cut those off.
“It prevents STD transmission.” The WHO says that it might, but condoms do for sure. Don’t give someone a false idea of what prevents disease transmission. “The AAP and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) do not endorse the procedure as a way to prevent any of the medical conditions mentioned previously. ” Source: http://kidshealth.org/parent/system/surgical/circumcision.html#“It’s in my faith” And what if your kid decides to change his religion? You cut off a part of his body for what YOU believe in. He may or may not agree with you!
“He should look like other kids in the locker room.” Less and less parents are getting their kids circumcised. The rate is around 55% right now, so either way he’ll fit in.
Some more facts:
The foreskin is not functionless Many people call it a “useless piece of skin” but it does serve a purpose. The head of the penis is naturally moist, like the inside of your cheek. When the foreskin is missing, the head of the penis dries out and keratinizes, which is a fancy word for becomes calloused. This means that it becomes less sensitive because it is dried out.
That “tiny snip” results in an index card piece of skin by the time the kid is an adult
Many circumscions go bad. Infants who get anesthesia can die from it. Frequently the healing does not go as planned and it can result in “skin bridges” that connect from the head to the former foreskin. These generally require more surgery. Other healing complications, such as infection can also set in. A penis infection is not a good thing!
Sex! When a foreskin is removed, the male clit goes with it. It may make you uncomfortable but your kid will have a sex life, hopefully a good one. Where the foreskin connects the the bottom of the penis is a bundle of nerves called the “frenulum” that is generally removed when the foreskin is removed. This is sometimes referred to as the male clitoris.
Sex can be more painful for his future partners. The foreskin allows the penis to move forward and backward with reduced friction on the anal/vaginal opening. Removing it can make sex more painful by increasing the friction.
It is HIS body. Ultimately, circumcision is a procedure that cannot be undone. While there are some treatments, the frenulum can never be replaced. You are removing parts of a kid’s body. Shouldn’t he get a say in the matter?

This is BULL FUCKING SHIT! Circumcised is the way to go!!! uncircumcised is disgusting, those dicks look ugly! yuck!!! ;b

I guess intelligence and facts are just lost on some people, no?

Well, when all of society is a beauty competition…

“I guess intelligence and facts are just lost on some people, no?”
- Actually, my opinions on circumcision come from experience. The experience of watching my 4 year old brother be in serious amount of pain because his foreskin did not retract properly and was cutting off circulation to the crown… my parents made the decision to have him circumcised.
The experience of watching my brother’s best friend at 18 go through the same thing.
And THEN… the most wonderful experience of all time. My (now ex) boyfriend and I were in the middle of sex, when he started screaming and he pulled out and there was BLOOD EVERYWHERE… His foreskin had torn, and he was in so much pain, and there was so much blood…
So, when people start harping on about how “evil” it is to be circumcised and that people should never do it, I get really defensive and want to say, yeah, there’s all that Other Stuff, but, uh, what about the Flip-Side to that Coin?
In an aside - I want to point out that, I’ve had sex with guys who have both been circumcised and uncircumcised, and none of those partners (who were circumcised) ever complained about a lack of feeling, sensitivity, pleasure or orgasm due to lack of foreskin… So… yanno, I think, of all those reasons for keeping your foreskin intact, that one is the one that is the most bollocks.

I find it interesting that everyone I’ve ever heard use arguments along the line of “No one has ever complained about lack of feeling to me” are women. I hold nothing against women, as any of my closest (and subsequently female) friends will inform you, but I feel that I am forced to retort to you all a line that is often thrown in my face when topics such as birth control and abortion arise…”This is my body, you have no right to tell me what to do with it.”
As a circumcised male I have never complained about lack of feeling or sensation however, how do I respond when other people ask me such utterly stupid questions? I respond as such, “I don’t know if I have a lack of feeling because I WAS NEVER GIVEN THE CHOICE”
I am constantly badged by others with their “right” for choice. As a future doctor I have no right to take away my patients “choice”, everything is about making sure that what a person actually requests is what they get…however so many people are so determined to take away choice in this situation because “We know this is better”…so did the whites when they decided to “give those dumb negros” a home and some work.
Can bad things happen to an uncircumcised male? Yes. Does the likelihood of something bad happening from surgery far outweigh the likelihood of something bad happening from retaining a foreskin? Yes. If you would like an opinion from someone who is medically trained, I suggest you reread this paragraph because you just got it. The circumcision procedure can be performed at any age, allowing time to see if there will be a problem, so using the rare possibility of complication as a reason to get everyone circumcised is just as ignorant as those who claim that we should let teenage pregnancy rates skyrocket because there is a 0.5% chance of a blood clot with most forms of birth control.
I take it as a personal insult that people seem to believe that, once I had grown to a proper age, I would not be able to make a choice for myself and that, to prevent me from ever having to have made that choice, they’ll just deal with it before I can tell them “no”. Am I, or any other male on this planet, really so utterly incapable of deciding something for ourselves that people who have no idea who we really are yet can make all our choices for us? Then I would suggest you keep me away from all my schooling, or I may just “learn” something…

*sigh* This is where we agree to disagree. I am NOT saying to take away your choice (and you KNOW THIS). But I do think that people should be presented with ALL sides of the argument. That’s the wonderful thing about being Pro-Choice ANYTHING.
Also… I may not have been very clear… Yes, I have had sex with my brother’s best friend, both pre and post-circumcision… And there were definitely no complaints.
My whole “complaint” is that people only ever present one side of this whole argument, and that is “OMG, IT’S EVIL, We shouldn’t do it!!” No one ever presents the case where parents have been given no choice (like with my brother), or men have had no choice (like said friend), or where there have been mid-coital problems arising due to the foreskin…
You cannot have healthy, open discussion, if you’re only constantly hearing one side of the story….
